About

Bio

I’m Robert (Rob) Laird, a pianist, educator, and performer with a passion for connecting people through music. Based in the greater Rochester, NY area, I wear a few musical hats:
  • Music Educator: I teach in the Wayne Central School District, where I direct choirs and general music classes, and at the Eastman Community Music School (ECMS), where teach Theory In Motion.
  • Private Instructor: Out of my home studio, I offer personalized piano lessons tailored to each student’s goals and interests.
  • Performer: I play regularly with Uptown Groove, a dynamic band covering weddings, galas, and club events, and also book freelance piano engagements for solo, duo, and ensemble performances.
My teaching philosophy blends solid fundamentals with music that excites students, balancing technique, theory, and artistry. I aim to create a welcoming, encouraging space where each student can build skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.

When I’m not teaching or performing, I enjoy spending time with my daughter Katey, walking my dog Sammy, and exploring new repertoire for both the stage and the classroom.
